Fibre & Polymer Research Division

The Fibre & Polymer Research Division (F&PRD) is one of the largest and most specialized divisions of BCSIR Laboratories, Dhaka, dedicated to advanced research and development in polymer chemistry and to providing technical support for Bangladesh’s polymer-based industries. The division focuses on developing modern, sustainable, and locally adaptable technologies through the effective utilization of indigenous raw materials to support industrial growth. At present, scientists are engaged in diverse R&D activities, including regular projects, special allocation projects, and sponsored projects during the current financial year. In addition to its research mandate, F&PRD offers extensive analytical services, having tested thousands of polymeric samples, and operates through seven specialized research and testing sections covering fibers, plastics, rubber, dyes and pigments, resins, paints, and polymer testing.

Research Area
The division’s research emphasizes Modification of Natural Fibers and their Structural Components (i.e., Cellulose, Hemicellulose & Lignin); Nano- and Graphene-based Technologies; Plastic, Rubber and Resin-based Composites; Rubberization of Bitumen; Natural Polymer-based Binders and Additives for Paints; Dyes and Pigments; Plastic and Rubber Waste Management & Utilization System, and Treatment of Industrial Effluents, etc.
